Hamburg is the second largest city of Germany, located in the north, at the confluence of the Elbe River in the North Sea. Among lots of sightseeing in the city there are five places to visit in Hamburg.
First and foremost – Rathaus. It’s the seat of parliament and the senate of Hamburg City, a symbol of self-determination and independence. Built in 1897 in neo-Renaissance.
If you are the connoisseur of art, visit Kunsthalle. Though Kunsthalle holds the 2nd place in our “Five places to visit in Hamburg” list, it is the leading art museum in northern Germany and one of the most prominent in Europe. There is an impressive collection of paintings of the XIX century, as well as artists of the XX century.
Then go to St Michael’s Church, the symbol of Hamburg and the most beautiful spiritual edifice in northern Germany.
Above the clock there is an observation platform, where tourists can overlook the magnificent views of the city, the Alster Lake and the Elbe River.
If you want to have fun, visit Hagenbeck Zoo. It is in Shtellingene, not far from Hamburg. Today there are 2,500 animals belonging to 360 species. There is a spacious playground for children in the zoo.
One more place for pleasure is Reeperbahn, the center of nightlife and the area of “Red Light” in Hamburg. There are many restaurants, disco clubs, theaters, vaudeville, and probably hundreds of bars in this area. There is also an operetta theater.
